Global Hackathon case study

Science Innovation Challenge Global Summit 2021

October 10th-14th, 2021

Overview:

NEOM is an accelerator of human progress. It’s a region in the northwest of Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea, a habitat being built from the ground up as a living laboratory, a place where entrepreneurship will chart the course for a new future. NEOM’s a destination for people who dream big and wish to be part of building a unique model for exceptional liveability, creating thriving businesses and reinventing environmental conservation.

Challenge:

NEOM focuses strongly on innovation around technology in health care, big data, food supply, energy, water, and the environment. They challenged teams of high school students to come up with ideas based on the scientific knowledge they gathered at school which would lead to the creation of ideas to solve global problems using scientific methods.

Solution:

The Global Exec. collaborated with NEOM to provide an innovative solution via a global hackathon, the Science Innovation Challenge Global Summit 2021. We utilized our partnership with Agorize to customize a platform that would host and facilitate the hackathon. Our team worked extensively to recruit high school students from all over the world, resulting in the registration of 44 teams.

Mentors and judges were selected based on their ability to provide expert and actionable advice on a specific topic related to the student's ideas. Our team organized inspirational webinars and panel discussions that focused on applying critical thinking to real-life mathematical and scientific problems. The winning team’s idea was an individualized learning framework for refugees using blockchain. This further resulted in students gaining more understanding about NEOM’s vision and goals.

“Research and Innovation are crucial but in collaboration and at the same time engaging citizens. Without great people and purposes, even good ideas are useless. NEOM brings ideas and innovators together that make great solutions excel. I feel excited for being part of several teams during the last year”
